How To Choose The Right Material For Revolving Door Hinges?

Selection of suitable rotary door hinges material requires comprehensive evaluation based on four key factors: corrosion resistance, bearing capacity, usage scenario and budget. Here are some details:
1.Comparison of Material Types and Characteristics
Stainless Steel Hinges
Strengths: corrosion resistance, high strength, not easily deformed, suitable for humid or harsh environments (e.g. bathroom, kitchen, outdoor revolving doors, etc.).
Applicable Scenario:
304 Stainless Steel steel: compared to ordinary steel, has excellent corrosion resistance, suitable for most rotary door applications.
316 Stainless Steel: Corrosive and suitable for coastal or high-salt spray environments (e.g. coastal buildings and chemical plants).
Note: Stainless steel hinges are more expensive but have lower long-term costs (low maintenance and long service life).
Cold-Rolled Steel Hinges
Advantages: high Highbearing capacity, plasticity and corrosion resistance after surface plating. Cost less than stainless steel.
Applicable Scenario:
Dry Environments: Revolving doors in bedrooms, living rooms, closets or balcony bathroom cabinets (ensure the plating is in place). High load-bearing requirements: For large revolving doors or heavy wooden doors, cold rolled steel plate thickness and strength can meet the requirements.
NOTE: If the electroplating layer is damaged, it rusts easily and requires regular inspection and maintenance.
Zinc Alloy Hinges
Advantages: through die casting can form complex structure, plating surface beautiful, corrosion resistant, suitable for indoor furniture.
Applicable Applications:
Lightweight revolving door: suitable for low load-bearing requirements such as display cabinets and partition doors, but exquisite in appearance requirements.
NOTE: Zinc alloys are much weaker than stainless steel and cold rolled plates and make not suitable for frequent use or heavy duty doors.
Aluminum Alloy Hinges
Strengths: Lightweight, moderate strength, good corrosion resistance, suitable for light weight.
Applicable Applications:
Aircraft hatches and car interior doors: Revolving doors requiring lightweight design.
Temporary partitions or portable doors: Where frequent removal and disassembly is required, the load bearing requirements are low.
Note: Aluminum alloy has weak bearing capacity and is not suitable for large or heavy revolving doors. Engineering plastic hinges (e.g. nylon and polycarbonate)
Strengths: Insulation, abrasion resistance, strong chemical stability, suitable for special environment.
Applicable Applications:
Electronic equipment cabinet doors, medical device operating doors: applications requiring electrical insulation or resistance to chemical corrosion.
NOTE: Plastic hinge has low bearing capacity and is only suitable for lightweight doors.
ii. Selection steps and decision logic
Identification Application Scheme
Humid/Corrosive Environments (e.g. bathroom, kitchen and outdoor): 304 / 316 stainless steel preferred.
Dry Areas/Low-Use Areas (such as bedrooms and closets): Choose cold-rolled steel (a complete electroplating layer) or zinc alloys.
Lightweight/Special Needs (e.g. electronic and medical equipment): select engineering plastics.
Lightweight/Mobile Applications (such as airplanes and cars): Choose aluminum alloy.
Assess Load-Bearing Requirements
Heavy duty doors (such as large revolving doors and solid wood doors): Cold rolled or stainless steel, ≥ 4mm thick, bearing capacity ≥ 50kg. Lightweight doors (e.g. glass doors, aluminum alloy doors): Choose zinc or aluminum alloy with a bearing capacity of 20-30 kg.
Consider budget and long-term costs.
If you have a budget: opt for stainless steel (high durability and low maintenance).
If your budget is limited: opt for cold-rolled steel (cost-effective but requires regular maintenance) or zinc alloys (suitable for light applications).
3. (3) verification of material quality.
Pay attention to surface: highquality hinge surface is smooth and flawless, plating layer is uniform (very important for cold rolled steel).
Test feel: High quality hinges open and close smoothly with gentle damping (such as nylon damping and noise reduction rods).
Check the structure: thick hinges, axles and hinges work closely together, no bond.
III. Typical Application Case References
Shopping centre turnstiles: 304 stainless steel hinges, carrying capacity over 80kg, suitable for regular use and outdoor environments.
Hotel partition doors: optional hidden zinc alloy hinge, beautiful, meet the requirements of lightweight. Home wardrobe revolving doors: cold-rolled steel hinges (thick electroplating) high value for money, suitable for dry environment.
Medical equipment doors: Engineering plastic hinges (such as nylon) meet electrical insulation and chemical resistance requirements.
